I take pride in not being sick.
One year, in high school, I was given an award for perfect attendance. The other years, I had only a miss or two — but usually it was for personal reasons.
I remember I missed one class in college (because I was sick anyway).
And since coming to the Daily Globe nearly five years ago, I hadn’t taken a sick day.
I do remember I was very ill on election day four years ago. I don’t think I would have gone into work that day, but fortunately, I wasn’t scheduled to be in the office that day.
So when I had to miss work yesterday, I felt guilty.
I didn’t know what it was like to not be at work. Sure, I’ve had days off before, but being sick is not fun.
I won’t go into any details about my Sunday/Monday, but let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. I honestly don’t remember the last time I was that sick.
I was able to spend most of the day sleeping, and today, I feel a little better. I’m not quite back to 100 percent yet — maybe 75ish — but that’s a lot better than the 10 percent I was feeling yesterday.
