My Christmas tree

Honestly, how long do you keep a Christmas tree up?

When does it become creepy and odd?

I honestly have no idea.

I’m sure some people take it down a day or two after the big day.

And I bet others keep it up for months.

So, when is the opportune time?

I’ll be honest. It’s January 8. And my tree is still up.

I just can’t take it down.

There is just something calming and soothing about shutting off all the lights and sitting by the tree.

And I’m not ready for that feeling to go away.

Of course, at some point, it will be time.

I’ll have to pack away all my ornaments for another year.

On a side note, there is a great story behind my ornaments.

For as long as I can remember, my grandparents have given my cousin and I an ornament for Christmas. It wasn’t just any ornament, it was a Hallmark ornament. It was their Puppy Love collection.

There are 22 in the series. I have 21 of them. That means for all but seven years of my life, I’ve received a puppy wrapped up under the tree.

I have 21 puppies on my tree. I own a small tree, meaning most of the ornaments are puppies. I have a few other things here and there. But not many.

Every time I look at the tree, I think of my grandparents. I think of all the Christmases we’ve spent together, and how I hope we have many, many more.

I think about how my cousin and I would try to guess which box the puppy was in. Over the years, my grandma has tried to trick us and put them in different boxes.

But each year, there they were.

And no matter how many more years this tradition continues, the puppies will always hold a special place in my heart.

Maybe that’s the reason I can’t take my tree down just yet.
